I’m always on the lookout for new art/drawing/design books. I’ve got a pretty decent library going but a group of books that have eluded me are by the late, great commercial artist, Andrew Loomis. These fantastic instructional books, published between 1939 and 1961 are GREAT resources for aspiring illustrators. Although these are rather old, the principles, methods and ideas they contain are timeless and will always hold true.
For whatever the reason, these books are no longer being published. I’ve seen copies of them go for hundreds of dollars on eBay. BUT! – Someone else who recognized their academic worth to future generations of artists has scanned every page and compiled them into downloadable PDF files!
I have them all and I’m putting them here for download as well - click on the cover for each book:
Hopefully I won’t get into trouble for posting these, but the fact of the matter is - they’re all out of print and haven’t seen new editions printed for 30 years or so. People still want these books. Like I said, these are invaluable resources for all illustrators - past, present and future. They need to be available. They come back into print, I’ll take these off my website and buy the whole set as soon as they’re released.
But until then - enjoy them, learn something, go draw!
